Warthin-Starry Stain is a stain based in silver nitrate, also known as silver staining, and is commonly used in histology laboratories. Its main intention is for use in visualizing Spirochetes, but is also effective with Helicobacter pylori, Legionella pneumophila, and Cat Scratch Fever bacteria. Warthin-Starry stain works by binding the silver ions in the silver-nitrate reagent with certain protein groups, staining the important components of the sample black/brown over a soft yellow background. This stain kit may be used on formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded, or frozen sections depending on your labs needs or intentions.
