The Fontana Masson Stain Kit is intended for use in the histological visualization of Argentaffin and Melanin in paraffin or frozen sections.
Argentaffin Cells: Black
Melanin: Black
Nuclei: Red
Cytoplasm: Light Pink
Uses/Limitations:
– For In-Vitro Diagnostic use only
– Histological applications
– Do not use past expiration date
– Use caution when handling these reagents
Control Tissue:
– Any paraffin embedded tissue that contains Hair Follicles or Skin for Melanin
– Small Intestine for Argentaffin
Preparation of Reagent Prior to Beginning:
Prepare fresh Ammoniacal Silver Solution prior to use.
Using chemically cleaned glassware or new plastic ware, add one vial of Silver Nitrate Solution to 27ml Distilled water and mix. Next add, drop by drop, Concentrated Ammonium Hydroxide (Not included in this kit!); the solution initially turns dark brown and then gradually becomes transparent with a layer of fine sediment. Solution is ready to use when all sediment is dissolved.
Procedure (Standard):
1. Deparaffinize sections if necessary and hydrate to distilled water.
